What does artificial Intelligence (AI) mean for our everyday lives? How can it help or harm people? Is AI going to take our jobs? These are just a few questions you may have about the rise of recent generative computing and large language model technologies, commonly referred to as AI. AI developers are making big promises, and it seems like everyone is scrambling to get a piece of the pie, but the technology also poses big problems. Up in the cloud, AI is being integrated into our internet platforms, apps, and search engines, leading to issues with misinformation, bias, and plagiarism. Down on the ground, the data centers that power AI are creating concerns for labor rights and environmental resources. This includes massively increasing our energy demand and creating the potential for more oil and gas infrastructure in Pennsylvania.
