Gas, Steel and Petrochemical Tours

Join us on one of three bus tours on Gas, Steel and Petrochemical Production.

Steel Tour (3 Hours) Join two residents who call the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works in Clairton and the Edgar Thomson plant in Braddock their neighbor and tour the Mon Valley. This half-day tour will begin in Hazelwood in Pittsburgh, the site of the largest solar array in Pennsylvania, before traveling to two environmental justice communities.

Mid Stream Gas Tour (3 Hours) The marcellus shale gas boom in western Pennsylvania brought with it an expanding mid-stream infrastructure including pigging operations, compressor stations and processing plants. Communities in rural Washington County are ground zero for much of that buildout.  Take a tour to see how mid-stream facilities are being added to the fracking operations in the region.

Gas Tour (6 Hours) Gas tours were implemented to give people a first hand account of what it is like to live and grow up in the most heavily fracked county in Pennsylvania, Washington County.  On this tour you will see several unconventional gas well pads and the infrastructure associated with them such as impoundment ponds and compressor stations (which compress gas along pipeline routes), and hear about how they have impacted the surrounding community.

Petrochemical Tour (3 Hours) Join Beaver County residents Bob Schmetzer and Terrie Baumgardner, both members of Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community (BCMAC), for a tour of the petrochemical buildout in Beaver County. The Petrochemical Tour will feature Shell’s recently-constructed ethane cracker and its associated infrastructure as well as neighboring sites along a heavily-industrialized stretch of the Ohio River.
