Mycelium and Grit

January 21, 2026

Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania is a region infamous for the impact of fracking on its water supply. It is here that environmental contamination caused such division that a poisoned community was left to face the toll without support.

Through the stories of Susquehanna County residents Frank Finan and Rebecca Roter, we can begin to identify what it is like to experience disenfranchised grief in the context of environmental injustice. Their story offers us the opportunity to understand where the “mycorrhizal network” for this band of fighters and advocates lies and how our connections and willingness to give are what can rebuild the communities torn asunder by industrial disaster.
